Analysis of a contemporary horror advertising campaign

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Strangers 2

As seen above, red and black are common feature colours used within the horror genre for advertising campaign as the red signifies danger and death. Also, there is no real faces visible, this adds to the mystery of the film as you are not able to see the protagonist. It seems as if there's an effect of blood smeered on both posters. In addition to this, the text on both of these posters are either white or red as these are colours which contrast a lot with black and allow for them to stand out. The same font is used throughout each of these magazines and both include dates of the release. These are all common conventions of a horror movie poster. The main features of the magazine such as the name of the movie and common logos which identify to be from the movie are placed in large where as the less relevant information such as the names of the actors and such is placed in very fine text showing that as importance of a piece of text increases, so does the size.
